Basic Baristas (Website)

Basic Baristas is an educational initiative that began in 2018, aiming to make coffee education accessible to everyone. The project offers a series of illustrative manuals and an online platform designed to bridge communication gaps between trainee baristas and trainers, particularly addressing language barriers and varying levels of prior knowledge.
The project focuses on creating engaging, step-by-step guides that simplify complex coffee-making techniques and customer service skills. The illustrative nature of the manuals encourages self-initiative among readers, fostering a deeper understanding of the craft. The online platform complements the physical books by providing a virtual academy for subscribers who prefer digital learning.
Basic Baristas addresses the need for effective communication in coffee training, providing resources that alleviate the pressure of miscommunication between baristas and trainers. By making coffee education accessible, the project empowers individuals in remote areas and students seeking part-time employment in the coffee industry.
Execution
- Research & Planning: Through surveys, interviews, forums, and firsthand work experience, the project identified key issues in coffee training, such as miscommunication and lack of access to formal education. These insights informed the development of user personas and the decision to create accessible training manuals.
- Design & Development: The project encompasses book design, a landing page, user testing, and community platform design. The logo, inspired by a coffee tamp, and the color palette, reflecting a rich, royal aesthetic, contribute to a cohesive brand identity.
- Content Creation: The manuals cover various aspects of the coffee service industry, from brewing techniques to customer service, and are designed for optimal use in a café setting or on-the-go learning. The website serves as both an e-commerce platform and a virtual academy, offering subscribers access to digital content and resources.
